The government today (24) announced that the import tax on petrol has been reduced from Rs. 15 to Rs. 5 per liter with effect from January 10.
Petroleum Ministry Secretary Titus Jayawardena has told the media that the reduction has been made despite increases in international prices.
The decision was taken by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Petroleum after the Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) had requested for a price revision in the local market due to the increasing world market prices.
