The final stock of goods collected by the Independent Television Network for the benefit of flood victims is being handed over to the affected persons.
The stock of goods dispatched in containers and trucks under the final stage of the programme was distributed among the affected families in Trincomalee today. ITN was able to collect donations from around the country. There was a high response from State as well as private institutions and individuals. Even donations from various foreign oganisations were received by ITN. Initially, bottled water was handed over. Thereafter, it continued to receive essential goods including dry rations. The staff of the Employees Trust Fund led by its Chairman K.M.A. Godawatte handed over the final stock of goods to ITN, enabling to help many flood victims. Donations collected by ITN viewers were also received. Dry rations, bottled water, clothing, drugs and other essentials which poured in to the ITN premises were dispatched stage by stage. The initial stock was transported to Batticaloa., while the second was dispatched to Welikanda.
The donations collected under the last stage were distributed among the flood affected families in the Verugal, Kuchchaveli and Verakkandi areas today. These were transported in several trucks and containers for distribution among the affected families. ITN extends its gratitude to all those who united in contributing to its relief programme to help families who had been rendered helpless by the sudden disaster.
