The Supreme Courts today (25) ruled that the Court Martial is part of the legal system.
The Court said that the Court Martial was legal according to 89 (D) of the country’s Constitution.
A five member Supreme Court judge bench headed by Chief Justice Asoka de Silva informed the Court of Appeal of its judgment.
A three-member Appeal Court judge bench headed by Judge Ranjith de Silva today announced the judgment.
The Appeal Court earlier requested the Supreme Court of an interpretation of a Court Martial with regard to an appeal submitted by former Army Commander and DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka against the move to remove him from his parliamentary seat following verdict delivered by a Court Martial.
