Construction work under the first stage of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant is nearing completion.
The project was launched in July 2007 under the strategy of generating power at a low cost. Work on the first stage has been completed to a considerable extent. 300 megawatts of power would be added to the national grid under the first stage. It is planned to generate 600 megawatts during the second stage. The total capacity of the project will be 900 mega watts. This will help to meet the demand for power supplies without experiencing any impediments. It would be an impetus to expanding various development sectors of the economy including industries. It will also help in generating more jobs and new income avenues. Chief Project Director W.D.N. Xavier pointed out that testing on the distribution of electricity of the Coal power plant is now in progress.
