The attack unleashed on the Maha Bodhi Vihare in Chennai was a minor incident. Deputy Secretary of the Maha Bodhi Society in India, the Ven. Thiniyawela Palitha Thera said the incident had now been resolved.
The Prelate said that they consider the attack at the Maha Bodhi Vihare as a minor incident. The incident has been resolved. He called on the people not to create problems as a result of this incident. He emphasized that this will not have an impact on pilgrims visiting Chennai.
Immediate action was initiated to provide security to the Vihare following the mediation of the President. The Ven. Palitha Thera asserted that such an incident had hitherto not been experienced. Groups of all communities, religions and castes frequent the Maha Bodhi Vihare. Large numbers from India flock to the Maha Bodi Vihare during Independence Day and the Vesak festival. The Maha Sangha have expressed doubt that the incident may have resulted due to a dispute among fishermen. The Maha Sangha underscored that no one should entertain unnecessary fear due to this incident.
