The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search off the South Carolina coast for three boaters who didn't return from a fishing trip.
Authorities say 67-year-old Jim Sanders, 44-year-old Steve Sanders and 34-year-old Andy Murray left last Thursday in a 23-foot boat from a landing near Georgetown. They were supposed to be back by sunset that day.
Since they disappeared, the Coast Guard and state and local agencies spent 172 hours searching an area roughly the size of Virginia. The search was suspended Tuesday afternoon.
Two Coast Guard helicopters, two cutters and two C-130 fixed wing aircraft were used.
Capt. Peter Brown of Coast Guard District Seven in Miami says that after six days, all reasonable efforts to find the missing men have been exhausted.
