Pinkamas mark President’s election for second term

Pinkamas are being held island-wide to mark one year since the people voted President Rajapaksa to a second term of office.

All night Pirith chanting was organized at the Raja Maha Vihara in Bellanwila. It was held under the patronage of the Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalaratana thera. Minister Gamini Lokuge, Presidential Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath and a large gathering were present. Blessings were also invoked on the war heroes.

The people of Matale organized a Pinkama to bless the President and the country. It was held at the Matale Aluvihara. Government officials joined the people of the area in this Pinkama.

The Sabaragamuwa Passenger Transport Authority held a special Pinkama releasing five milch cows that were to be killed.

The farmer community of the Polonnaruwa District organized all night Pirith chanting to bless the President. Alms were offered to the Maha Sangha at the Galvihara premises in Polonnaruwa. A pinkama was also conducted near the Watadageya in Medirigiriya.

The historic Raja Maha Vihara in Tissamaharama was another venue where a Pirith Pinkama was held to bless the President and the country. It was organized under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the temple the Ven. Dewalegama Dhammasena Thera.

Meanwhile there was a Bodhi Pooja at the Bauddhaloka Pirivena Vihara in Kurunegala. The people of the area participated in this Pinkama.
