The expenditure incurred on the development of the Vavuniya District last year was 2537 million rupees.
The Economic Development Ministry expended this money last year for the development of infrastructure of 505 villages within four Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the District. 85 million rupees was spent to repair 118 kilometres of main and subsidiary roads. 25 million rupees was invested on the Nedunkerni Water Supply Scheme. Water Supply Schemes were also launched to provide water for seven remote areas. 50 million rupees was spent on the Mamaduwa project from which 285 families benefited. 20 million rupees was invested on the Thapakulam Project. The expenditure incurred on the repair of small and medium scale tanks in the Vavuniya District was 23 million rupees. 105 million rupees was spent on the improvement of livelihoods.
In the meantime, landmine in 170 Grama Niladhari Divisions and more than 220villages had been removed. 42 million rupees was spent on the provision of buildings and equipment to schools under 29 projects. The Vavuniya base hospital was provided with an artificial organ transplant Centre, which cost 4.27 million rupees.
