Half of board says perjury conviction wasn't connected to police work
Former Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge's right to a pension rested on one ambiguous phrase in Illinois law. The police pension board had to decide Thursday whether Burge's conviction for lying about the torture of criminal suspects in 2003 was "relating to or arising out of or in connection with" his job as a police officer.
