Jan 28, 2011 10:58:14 AM - itnnews.lk

Power generated by Sri Lanka’s first coal power plant will be added to the National Grid next month. It would be 300 megawatts.

The Norochcholai Thermal Power Plant occupies a significant place among the mega development projects mooted under the Mahinda Chinthana. Work on the first stage of the Power Plant which will have the capacity of generating 300 megawatts of power has already been completed.

The opening of the first stage will take place under the patronage of President Rajapaksa on the 10th of next month. The work on this Power Plant which was delayed for several years, was launched by the President in 2006. All arrangements are in place for the release of  power from this Plant to the National Power Grid. The coal necessary for the generation of power has already reached the country.
