A sting conducted Wednesday by the Columbia police in partnership with the state Secretary of State's office resulted in an arrest and the confiscation of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of counterfeit clothing.
Jessica Freitas Norris is charged with trafficking in counterfeit goods, the Secretary of State's office said.
Norris is the owner of Evolution Designer Apparel at Dutch Square Mall.
Officers confiscated coats, jackets, jeans, shirts, sweat suits and watches bearing counterfeit marks from several well-known companies, including Casio, COOGI, Ed Hardy, Evisu, Gucci, LRG, Ralph Lauren, and Red Monkey. The items are in evidence storage, then they will be destroyed.
I offer my thanks to law enforcement in protecting intellectual property rights and commend the public for not being afraid to speak out when they see inappropriate pricing on so-called designer goods, Secretary of State Mark Hammond said.
