Minister Basil Rajapaksa has referred to the Government’s intention of developing the Tourism industry with a major contribution from the private sector.
Addressing a function in Kurunegala, the Minister pointed out that their intention was to minimize the Government’s mediation in the Tourism industry and work only as a facilitator. If meaningful results were to be achieved in this industry, the private sector should get involved in it.
The Minister patronized in the opening of the Tourism Information and Facilities Centre of the North-Western Province in Kurunegala. The new centre has been established on the sidelines of the programme unveiled by the Provincial Council to uplift the Tourism industry of the province. Its purpose is to provide information and facilities related to the Tourism sector to local as well as foreign tourists. The expenditure incurred was 30 million rupees. Chief Minister of the North Western Province Athula Wijesinghe and many people’s representatives were present.
