Minister S.B. Dissanayake has said that the Government is mulling over enacting new legislation to improve the standards of private Universities.
The Minister said that plans are afoot to introduce new laws and regulations to monitor degree courses of the public sector. The Government strongly believes that international and national standards should be maintained for higher educational institutes whether they be public or private. They should also have suitable educated staff. At the same time, educational facilities should be accorded to the students. He added that a monitoring team would be appointed to oversee the work of private universities.
The Minister was speaking at the opening of the Horizon Higher Educational Institute launched in Malabe. It is affiliated to the Open University in the Karnataka state in India. Many were present at the opening ceremony.
