A project is being launched to protect 32 major reservoirs and canals.
The project is being launched by the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Management. Minister Nimal Siripala de silva said that the Kantale and the Vendrasan tanks are being speedily renovated under this project. Two hundred million rupees has been allocated for the renovations of the Kantale tank. 35 minor tanks and reservoirs in the area are also being renovated under the project. The Minister inspected the tanks and canals that were damaged due to floods in the Trincomalee district. A protective dam is being constructed to minimize the flood risk to the Alla farming community due to the increase of water in the Ma-wil-aru reservoir. Machinery worth 200 million rupees is being provided for this purpose.
