A Kershaw County sheriff’s captain shot a man with a beanbag from a shotgun after he allegedly threatened a deputy with butcher knives over the weekend, said Sheriff Jim Matthews this morning.
The incident took place at a home just outside Elgin Sunday night.
“The guy was drunk and very combative, and kept saying, ‘You are going to have to kill me,’” said Matthews.
Finally, the man came toward the deputy, who fired his shotgun from about three yards away.
The non-lethal beanbags are meant to stun an attacker and not to kill.
