Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile says it appears his deputies followed proper procedures when they shot and killed a man at a car wash.
The shooting occurred Monday night when deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person at a car wash south of Lancaster.
Chief Deputy Coroner Karla Knight Deese says the victim was 56-year-old Randall Bowers of Lancaster.
The deputies' names have not been released, but Faile says they have been assigned to administrative duties while the State Law Enforcement Division and the sheriff's department investigate the shooting. The deputies were not hurt.
A cousin of Bowers told The Herald of Rock Hill that Bowers may have panicked when officers arrived after he had driven into a drain at the car wash.
