Feb 2, 2011 10:04:58 AM - itnnews.lk

Minister Jagath Pushpakumara has emphasized that he would resign if he was unable to provide coconuts to consumers at low cost within the next three months.

The Minister laid this emphasis joining in the launch of a countrywide programme to uplift coconut production under the “Kapruka Diriya” project. The Minister participated in the granting of the coconut fertilizer subsidy which aimed at improving coconut production. Accordingly a 50 kilogram bag of fertilizer was given at 1000 rupees each. Even those who had a little coconut trees on their land are entitled to this fertilizer subsidy. The Minister said that a higher production can be expected within four years with the implementation of this programme. Ministry Secretary Anura Siriwardena and Chairman of the Coconut Development Board Sarath Keerthiratne were among those present on the occasion.
