Rains continue until May

In comparison with previous years, Sri Lanka has received an extended spell of rain in the latter part of 2010 and in the early part of 2011. The prevailing rainy conditions are expected to continue on and off until May, according to Meteorology Chief G B Samarasinghe.
However Samarasinghe predicts a lull in showers from mid-February to the latter part of March in which period Sri Lanka would co-host the Cricket World Cup.
According to Met Department, Colombo received only 21 mm of rain in January 2010 while during the same period in 2011 Colombo has received an average rainfall of 37.2 mm.
