An all night Pirith chanting ceremony was held to mark the 63rd Independence Day.
The Pirith chanting ceremony was held at the Independence Square in Colombo last night. It was organized by the Ministry of Buddhasasana and Buddhist Affairs Department under the guidance of the Most Ven. Dauldena Gnanissara Thera. The members of Maha Sangha led by the Chief Incumbent of Jayasekerarama in Kuppiyawatta the Ven. Rajawatte Wappa Thera were ushered in a procession to the Independence Square. All night Pirith chanting was conducted to invoke blessings on the country and the President. Deputy Minister M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena, Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala, Ministers, Parliamentarians and representatives of Buddhist organizations were present on the occasion.
