More than 30,000 people have been displaced due to the incessant rains experienced in many areas.
Over 2,000 people have taken shelter in 21 temporary camps set up in the Ampara, Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Polonnaruwa Districts. Director of the Disaster Management Centre Pradeep Kodippili said they are being provided relief. Teams have been organised to work jointly with the Navy round the clock. Resources have been deployed to rescue and provide relief. He pointed out that all programmes are being mooted under the Disaster Management Ministry. Three deaths have been reported from the Vavuniya, Badulla and Ampara Districts while two persons are reported missing. The relief programme is being continuously carried out.
