A 16-year-old Richland Northeast High faces charges after allegedly bringing a handgun on campus, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department announced today.
Several students saw the teen at school Wednesday with a handgun in his bookbag and notified Richland Northeast officials and the School Resource Officer, the sheriff’s department said.
When questioned by the School Resource Officer, the student said he had taken the gun across the street and put it in the woods, reports said.
The gun was retrieved, and the teen was taken into custody. The teen faces charges of carrying a weapon on school grounds and unlawful carrying of a pistol, according to the sheriff’s department.
He has not been identified because of his age.
