University of South Carolina trustees are discussing plans to expand the medical school in Greenville.
The topic is on the agenda Friday for the university board meeting. It is set for discussion behind closed doors as a contractual matter.
Documents show Greenville Hospital Systems has promised to pay nearly $81 million for the expansion. Some lawmakers have criticized the plan because of concerns USC will require more state funding.
But university president Harris Pastides has promised lawmakers the expanded medical school would not seek state money.
USC already trains third- and fourth-year medical students at the Greenville Hospital System.
