Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has said that alternate land will be provided to families displaced as a result of landslides.
The Minister said he was able to look into the shortcomings of the affected families. Their only request was alternate land to reside. He opined that discussions had already been held with the Plantation Company and a suitable area located. However, he emphasized that the National Building Research Institute had to examine the location give an assurance it would not experience any landslides. Thereafter, these displaced families would be permitted to building their house. He disclosed that the Disaster Management Minister has given an assurance to provide the grants required to build their houses.
The Minister was speaking after inspecting landslides in Hali-ela, Badulla, Spring Valley, Badulusirigama and Morahelagama areas. The Army is engaged in granting relief to the families affected in these areas.
