The Disaster Management Center (DMC) states that 333,986 families have been affected by the adverse weather conditions experienced in the country.
The number of persons displaced by the floods stand at 320,408 persons have been displaced by the floods with 11 reported deaths.
Apart from the floods, many families in the hill country have been affected by landslides and the threat of landslides due to continuous rains.
Due to the heavy rains that have now affected over 330,000 families in several districts in the country, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has today (7) appointed a task force to assist the people affected by the floods.
The President has made the appointment following a decision arrived at the SLFP Central Committee meeting today.
Meanwhile, the Meteorology Department has issued a Bad Weather Advisory stating that rain or thundershowers with heavy rain falls (above 100mm) at some places could be expected in the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces and the Hambantota District.
