The United People’s Freedom Alliance has filed 25 more petitions against the rejection of nominations for the Local Government elections.
Freedom Alliance General Secretary and Minister Susil Premajayantha filed the petitions today. Officials including the Elections Commissioner have been cited as respondents. Petitions were filed for 19 local bodies of the North including Valikamam, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Point Pedro, Karainagar, Delft, Kayts and Velani. Petitions related to the rejection of nominations for Yatinuwara, Hingurakgoda, Wennappuwa, Chilaw, Navagattegama and Embilipitiya local bodies were also filed today. Pointing out that the rejection of the nominations filed for these local bodies contravenes the election laws, the Freedom Alliance General Secretary has called on Court to give an order to the Elections Chief to accept these nominations.
Meanwhile, a petition has also been filed against the rejection of the Freedom Alliance nominations for the Akmeemana Pradeshiya Sabha.
