Transport has resumed along the main Colombo-Batticaloa Highway. The train service between Colombo and Trincomalee has also resumed.
Transport along the Colombo-Battiocaloa main Highway was paralysed for five days as a result of floods. The stretch from Gallella to Manampitiya along the highway was about 15 feet under water. Transport has resumed along the road with the flood waters subsiding. All spill gates of the Parakrama Samudra have also been closed. The civilians are able to breathe a sigh of relief with the resumption of transport along the Colombo Mannar land route.
In the meantime, the train service between Trincomalee and Colombo which was suspended due to flood has resumed. The Railway Control Room said tonight mail train was due to operate from Trincoamlee at 7.00 p.m. The night mail from Colombo to Trincoamlee was due to resume at 9.00 p.m.
