About 15,000 chickens died when a large chicken coop burned in a small town northwest of Charleston.
Capt. John Poole IV of the Dorchester Rural Volunteer Fire Department said that the 25,000-square-foot structure was completely burning when firefighters arrived at the scene Sunday afternoon. Crews from nine area fire departments responded.
Firemen were on the scene for four hours and able to prevent the flames from spreading to several nearby coops.
Dorchester is about 40 miles northwest of Charleston.
