A programme to provide houses to every family rendered homeless as a result of floods and landslides will be launched at the behest of the President.
The Ministry of Construction, Engineering Service, Housing and Public Amenities has mooted an immediate programme to build 10,000 houses for families impacted by floods and landslides. The National Housing Development Authority is contributing to the programme. Action was initiated to summon to Colombo all technical officers of the districts where houses had been damaged and issue instructions about the housing construction programme. The Government emphasized that the five thousand rupee allowance given by the Disaster Management Ministry for Samurdhi recipients who lost their houses will have no impact on the housing programme.
