People who join health clubs to do regular workouts enjoy benefits — good posture, endurance, a spring in their step.
But lately, patrons of Gold’s Gym on Forest Drive have experienced a new side effect — having their cars burgled during workouts.
“My car was one of three that had been broken into (Monday) morning in the gym parking lot,” a Gold’s member wrote to The State in an e-mail Tuesday. “My window was busted and my purse was stolen. My wallet, cell phone, digital camera, library book and everything else in my purse are gone. My purse was tucked down in back behind the driver’s side seat and covered with a coat.”
Forest Acres Police Chief Gene Sealy confirmed the three break-ins Monday.
In the past year at that location, he said, police have had 19 car break-ins reported and eight thefts inside the gym. That includes two car break-ins and one attempted car break-in in January; one in December; and three in November, Sealy said.
