Dire action will be instituted against traders selling rice at exorbitant prices. Minister Johnston Fernando said he had already deployed officials to monitor the situation.
The Minister asserted that no changes have been effect to the control price. He said he had already given orders to take legal action against traders who sell rice above the control price. Official have been deployed to the areas concerned to institute legal action. The Minister declared that there is no shortage of paddy in the country. It has been found that that some wholesale traders were hoarding stocks. He added that the Police and officials of the Consumer Affairs Authority had been directed to nab traders hoarding stocks.
