A motorist has been charged with reckless homicide after a bicyclist from Fort Gordon died of injuries he sustained in an October crash.
Authorities say 41-year-old Daniel Wayne Johnson of Beech Island, S.C., was arrested Tuesday on the charge, and his bond has been set at $50,000.
Johnson was charged with reckless homicide 19 weeks after a collision with Dr. Matthew Burke, an orthopedic surgeon at Fort Gordon in Georgia.
An arrest warrant states that Johnson was driving his Dodge Durango on Beech Island Avenue when he struck several cyclists who were legally in the roadway.
Burke died on Sunday, and his funeral is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church.
