Gen Sarath Fonseka, the former Sri Lankan Army Chief who is currently under army custody, has won Parliamentary polls from Colombo district, sources said tonight.
Fonseka, the leader of the Democratic National Alliance that also included the Marxist JVP, won the elections from Colombo district, reliable sources told PTI.
They said an official communication from the Election Commission in this regard would be made only tomorrow.
Out of the results announced for 168 of the 225 parliamentary seats, the DNA had won only five seats.
Fonseka (59) contested the polls from the Naval headquarters, where he is currently lodged for allegedly indulging in politics while in uniform. He is currently facing court martial for several charges.
He was taken into custody by the army on February 8, a fortnight after he suffered defeat at the hands of his former boss and incumbent Mahinda Rajapaksa in the January 26 Presidential Polls.
