Mickey Bowdon, vice president for Christian school education, has been named interim headmaster at Ben Lippen School, the school’s board of directors announced today.
Bowdon replaces Brian Modarelli, who has taken a position as head of school at Christian Heritage School in Trumbull, Conn. Modarelli’s last day at Ben Lippen will be June 30.
Bowdon, who has been at Ben Lippen since 2005, has been involved in Christian education since 1972, serving as a teacher, coach, headmaster and superintendent. He also has been a Christian school consultant, regional council member for the Association of Christian Schools International, moderator of the Christian School Roundtable, and director of the Lowrie Center for Christian Education at Columbia International University.
Modarelli, who has been headmaster since 2006, is credited with increasing Advanced Placement classes, and developing a partnership with Columbia International University for dual enrollment. His effort is evidenced by the $4.5 million in renewable scholarships awarded to the members of the Ben Lippen class of 2010, an all-time high.
Bowdon says a national search for a permanent headmaster is underway.
