Pakistan: A suicide attack at an Army recruitment camp killed 31 soldiers in North Western Pakistan on Thursday (10) at 8.15 a.m. The blast wounded a further 40 soldiers and was said to have been carried out by a schoolboy, reported varyingly to be within the ages of 12 and 17.
Responsibility for the hit was taken by Tehreek-e-Taliban, who also threatened to carry out bigger attacks to avenge US drone strikes in the region.
The hit on the Punjab Regimental Centre was is of the worst strikes on the Pakistan Army, deeply involved for the last two years in operations in the restive Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa province bordering Afghanistan, to flush out Taliban militants.
Police statements after the blast said that eight or nine kg explosive material was used in the bomb.President Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have condemned the attack.
