The Colombo District Court today has prevented the main opposition United National Party leader from taking any disciplinary action against the eight members of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress including its leader and Minister Rauf Hakeem.
Colombo District Court has issued the order preventing UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and General Secretary Tissa Attanayake from taking disciplinary action against the SLMC leader and Minister Rauf Hakeem, and the other Parliamentarians of the party. The petitioners said that the UNP decided to take disciplinary action against them after they voted with the Government in supporting the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. The petitioners said they were members of the Muslim congress and they contested the General Elections from the UNP. As such they requested the Court to rule that the UNP had no authority to hold a disciplinary inquiry against them. Further hearings will commence on the 25th of this month.
