The Appeals Court has given more time for the Elections Chief to make submissions with regard to petitions filed against the rejection of nominations papers.
He had told Courts that he needs more time to study the nomination papers that had been turned down. Accordingly the Elections Commissioner was given time to make submissions on the 15 and 18th of this month.About 60 petitions filed against the rejection of nominations were taken by the Appeals Court today. It included 36 petitions filed by the United People’s Freedom Alliance, seven by the United National Party, six petitions filed by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress. Independent Groups too had filed petitions. Accordingly the Court decided to take up the cases again on the 15th and 18th of this month.
