The President has inaugurated the modernized Kettarama International Cricket Stadium.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Institute carried out the modernization work amounting to one billion rupees. A number of encounters in the World Cup series will be held at the Kettarama Stadium. Earlier the stadium provided facilities only for 17,000 spectators. Following the renovations the Stadium could accommodate 30,000 spectators. The Stadium is equipped with dressing rooms, rest rooms, media cubicles and other modern amenities. After the inauguration the President posed for a group photograph with the Kenyan and West Indies Cricket teams.
The President also viewed the Warm-up match between Kenya and the West Indies. Ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Wimal Weerawansa and Gamini Lokuge, A.H.M. Fowzi and Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana were among those present on the occasion.
