Plans are afoot to set up Special Children’s Homes which will take care of street children who taken into the custody of the Child Protection Authority.
24 children were taken into the custody of the Child Protection Authority in raids conducted during last month. In addition there are eight children who taken into the care of the Authority for various other causes. The Authority is mulling over the introduction of a special Children’s Housing System for their welfare. Chairman of the Authority Anoma Dissanayake said that their intention is to building children’s homes in a suitable secure environment before the end of this year. The Authority had already launched many operations with regard to street children and children who had been subject to abuse.
