Parliamentary Speakers of India and Pakistan have paid courtesy calls on President Rajapaksa.
Heads of Regional Parliaments have gathered in Colombo to participate in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Asia Regional Conference which opened yesterday. Speaker of the Lok Sabha of India Meira Kumar met the President at Temple Trees yesterday. The exchanged views on issues discussed at the CPA sessions. The Indian Speaker apprised the President of the programmes India was planning together with Sri Lanka to observe the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. The President and the Indian Speaker exchanged mementoes.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani Speaker Dr. Fehmida Mirza paid a courtesy calls on President Rjapaksa. Their talks adverted to working in cooperation as long time friendly nations. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, President Secretary Lalith Weeratunge and the Indian and Pakistani High Commissioners in Colombo were present.
