The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has requested the government to fix meters with sensors to detect landslide prone areas in the country.
The recent heavy rains resulted in landslides in the Matale, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Badulla Districts.
NBRO Geologist L. M. C. Moraimada has told the media that the device which is known as an extension meter needed to be inserted into the ground and that it sends an alarm in the event of a possible landslide threat.
Each sensor is to cost Rs. 200,000 and that over 160 landslide prone locations have been identified in the Matale District alone.
