Temporary identity cards are being issued for those who have lost their identity cards due to floods and landslides.
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayake has instructed the District Secretaries to take measures in issuing temporary identity cards for them as IDs would be required for the forthcoming elections. The distribution of IDs is currently being carried out through the Estate Superintendents and Grama Niladharis. The Elections Commissioner has advised to pay special attention to the areas that were hit by landslides and floods. Facilities have been provided for any voter who does not possess a recognized document to prove his identity, to obtain a temporary identity card.
