A Sunday night apartment fire displaced eight families in Columbia.
The fire at the New Orleans apartments on the 1700 block of South Beltline Boulevard caused more than $100,000 in damages, said Interim Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins. No one was injured in the blaze.
Two apartments were damaged by fire and four others suffered water and smoke damage, Jenkins said. Two others had to be evacuated because firefighters were forced to shut off the water supply to the building after the fire, he said.
It appeared the fire started in a central heating unit, but investigators still are researching the cause, Jenkins said.
