By Tuesday, the board that oversees the Columbia area bus system hopes to have a new ambassador to help it sell the public on transit transportation and a sales tax increase.
After a two-hour, closed-door meeting today, the Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority voted in principle to end its ties with Mitzi Javers, its only executive director, and bring on board Derrick Huggins.
Huggins, a USC transportation vice president, is to be loaned to CMRTA through June 30, board chairwoman Joyce Dickerson said today.
Javers will receive a severance package from her $72,000 annual salary as she completes a medical leave from her daily duties, Dickerson said.
Several board members said the details of the agreements with Javers and Huggins will be made public when they are signed by all parties. Dickerson said she hopes that will be later today or Tuesday.
