A National Programme to establish one million domestic economic units has been unveiled.
As the initial stage of the programme, the relevant sectors were appraised in Colombo today. It was presided by Minister Basil Rajapaksa. Among those present were officials of the Coconut Development Board and Regional Agricultural Officers. The main purpose of the programme is to uplift the nutritional standards of the family and the economy. Home garden cultivation, industries and dairy farming are planned in 100 selected home from each Grama Niladhari Division. The One Million Domestic Economic Units programme is operative in parallel to the Government’s efforts to developing the country while strengthening the family economically.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa said this was a programme aimed at strengthening the country. It is also an effort to strengthening every person economically, so that he would not be a burden to others.
Giving his views on this occasion Minister Jagath Pushpakumara said that this programme will also make a vital contribution to the national effort of cultivating coconut.
Senior Minister Athauda Seneviratne, Minister S.M> Chandrasena and Secretary to the Minister of Coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development Anura Siriwardena were among those present.
