The period granted for government employees for the repayment of the distress loan has been extended. President Rajapaksa has also instructed officials to immediately resolve problems, including salary anomalies of public employees.
These decisions were reached at a discussions held at Temple Trees with Trade Unions. It was chaired by the President. Accordingly the repayment period of the distress loan of public employees who were affected by the recent floods and landslides has been extended from 10 to 24 months. Attention was drawn to issues related to promotions of public workers. The President also gave instructions to officials to grant some relief to issues on the Public Language Policy encountered by public workers. Pointing out that the health service could not at all be paralysed, the President appraised the relevant sections about taking speedy action to sort out problems in this field.
The President sought views of Trade Union representatives on problems related to other fields. In response, the Trade Union representatives pledged optimum support to the President to make a reality, the Mahinda Chinthana Extended Version, operative for the welfare of the entire nation. They underlined their readiness to secure solutions to issue in their relevant fields through direct discussions. Many Parliamentarians and Senior Government Officials were present.
