A sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi has been taken to India.
Arrangements are in place to plant in India a sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura marking the 2600th Sambuddhathwa Anniversary. Accordingly the sapling to be planted in India was taken in a special motorcade to several locations in the country. Thereafter it was brought to the Katunayake International Airport. President Rajapaksa also paid obeisance to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and secured its blessings. The sapling was taken to India in a special Mihin Lanka flight under the patronage of Chancellor of the Kelaniya University the Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera and Chief Incumdent of the Ruwanweli Chaithyarama the Ven. Pallegma Hemarathana Thera.
