President Rajapaksa says the teachings of the Holy Prophet promote co-existence and therefore are a blessing for the country.
In his Meelad-un-Nabi message, the President said that at a time when peace is restored in the country time and again the teachings of the Holy Prophet relating to peace and harmony should be remembered. They are of great strength and a blessing for co-existence in society. “The core teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed are mutual understanding, brotherhood, cooperation and justice. I trust the strength it gives for national amity. This will help in the forward march of our country to become the Wonder of Asia.
In the meantime, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has said that the prime desire of Islamic devotees was to follow the vision of Holy Prophet Muhammed. Thus, he believed ti could help them to fulfil their responsibilities and work in cooperation with the other communities.
