A West Columbia homeowner wont face criminal charges for killing a man who allegedly tried to break into a truck parked in his backyard, officials said Wednesday.
Officials with the 11th Circuit Solicitors Office could not be reached late Wednesday afternoon to explain the decision not to seek charges.
It didnt meet their criteria for prosecution, said Police Maj. Jackie Brothers, declining further comment.
The shooting occurred about 3:15 a.m. Monday in the 2000 block of Morningside Drive, police said.
The victim was on a bicycle leaving the home when the homeowner shot twice after hearing noise around the truck, police said.
