Feb 17, 2011 9:32:54 AM - thesundayleader.lk

The United Nations (UN) has today (17) said the letter from the relatives of missing Sri Lankan journalist Pradeep Eknaligoda is ‘now being reviewed’ by its’ New York office.

The UN has said that the disappearance of any journalist anywhere is a matter of concern.
Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Martin Nesirky has told the daily UN media briefing in New York that “the letter to the Secretary-General, which was transmitted to New York by the UN Resident Coordinator in Colombo, had been received.”

He has also said that the letter was also channeled to colleagues in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Nesirky has said, “And that letter is now being reviewed. We’ve asked for an update on this, and will let you know when we have it… the disappearance of any journalist anywhere is, of course, a matter of concern, and not just to the Secretary-General.”
