Feb 17, 2011 10:12:16 AM - itnnews.lk

THE Cabinet has given the nod for the procurement of the equipment for the Faculty of Medicine of the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka at a cost of 250 million rupees.

This Medical Faculty has to conform to the strict criteria laid down by the Sri Lanka Medical Council which is the statutory body for approval of standards in medical schools in the country. In keeping with this requirement a ward complex consisting of wards, operating theatres, intensive care units, labour rooms and many other specialist areas are being constructed near the Teaching Hospital, Anuradhapura. The proposal was put forward by Minister Maithripala Sirisena.

Cabinet reviewed the badly affected situation of the Water Supply Schemes and Systems. Submitting a memorandum to the Cabinet, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that the project to reconstruct them was in place with assistance from UNICEF.

China will be giving a loan of 25 million US Dollars for the Uva Udanaya Project. It will help provide 100 percent electricity coverage to the Uva Province. The President as Finance Minister submitted the proposal.

Cabinet approval was granted to present the Institute of Applied Statistics (Incorporation) Bill to Parliament. It is a proposal of Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi. It will improve research, development, education and training
